A Powerful Interactive Source Code Debugger
For Verilog Users

Interactive_tool is a powerful interactive source code debugging tool for Verilog.    This tool completes the Undertow Suite work-bench. Interactive_tool, with its many features is primarily targeted at Verilog designers, desiring the ultimate in interactive and batch mode source code debugging, including Finite State Machine capabilities.

New Features ivimage.gif (23267 bytes)

Very high speed operations: All features now work with trace on or off.  Simulations with trace off and using a fast file allows the simulation to run almost 2x times faster than with a VCD file while making files up to 20x times smaller.
Using Parsed Data File without trace: Trace back allows a user to double click on any variable and have the Source Code Window display where this variable is assigned.  when there is no trace file, the Interactive_tool will use the parsed Verilog source files.
Annotate Source Code Window: Allows the user to see all the values for the signal date on the Source code window.  When users are looking at an assigned signal (left side of expression) that is transitioning, they can quickly see exactly what signals on the right side of this expression cause this transition.  By double clicking on these signals, users can back trace to any point to find the original reason for a signal transition.
Snap to source:  Users can now snap to any transition of a signal on Undertow and instantly display the exact line of source code that caused this transition on the Source Code Window of Interactive_tool.
Source Code / Trace Window: Users are provided with 2 types of windows for viewing source code, a Trace Window that shows the exact execution of the Verilog simulator, and a Source Code Window that shows exact source code files the user has written.  Both the Trace Window and the Source Code Window allow the user to step the simulator "forward" or "backward".
Interactive control of Verilog: Allows the user to start, stop, set break points, and use complex triggering in order interactive control the Verilog Simulator.

Description

Interactive_tool is a powerful interactive source code debugging tool for Verilog.    This tool, with its many features is primarily targeted at designers using behavioral code.

The Interactive_Tool provides both a Trace Window and  Source Code Windows.    The trace window will display the exact execution of all of the Verilog code the user wishes to trace.  The Source Code Window displays the source code file currently being executed.  If "Trace" is enabled, users step the Trace Window and the Source Code Windows both forward or backward to see exactly how the Verilog source code has been executed.

The new features of the Interactive_tool provide:

Very high speed operation: With "Trace" off and running in "Fast" mode the Verilog simulator can operate almost twice as fast as when it is outputting a VCD file.

Annotate: All variables at current time or at any user defined time can be viewed right on the Source Code Window.

Trace Back: By using "Annotate" users can quickly see exactly which transitioning variables(on the right side of an expression) cause an assigned variable to transition.  By double clicking on this variable, users can back track to find out where this transitioning variable is assigned and trace backwards in order to find the original cause for any signal transition.

Snap / Source: The Interactive_tool will display the exact line of source code that causes a transition on any signal, when the Snap/Source feature is enabled on the Undertow.

Tasks / Submodules / Functions: Double clicking on the Source Code Window on any Task, Submodule or Function causes Interactive_tool to display the source code for these Tasks, Submodules or Functions.

And more....

This tool is one more member, in a family of extremely powerful tools for Verilog users.  Veritools tools are being used on the world's most demanding Verilog projects including the design of the world's most powerful super computers and many of the largest and demanding ASIC designs currently done in the world.  Veritools products are available on: Sun 4.X, Solaris, HP 700/800, IBM 6000-AIX, Sony News and SGI platforms, in addition to Windows 95 and Windows NT.  One of Veritools products, Undertow, is used world wide by hundreds of companies on 4 continents and in 35 countries.  It has become the standard Verilog, TIMEMILL, POWERMILL, HSpice and Anagram viewing tool in many of the worlds largest electronic companies in the United States, Japan and Europe.
